From The Founder

I often get asked, ‘Why did you start Phin?’

The answer is simple: to do good. When I turned a page in my life, I was ready for a new challenge. After nearly 30 years building and growing a company called Firebrand, I knew I was ready to start over, from the beginning, and build something with impact.

This was a lesson that was taught to me, not by some guru, or wisdom, or age. Instead, I was inspired by 3 people in my life; Lexie, Jillian, and Lindsay. My three intelligent, independent, caring and strong minded GenZ daughters motivated me to do more. I saw their hands-on dedication to solving big problems from clean water in Africa to restoration of coral reefs all the way to Australia- all by the ripe age of 19. I saw the world through their eyes - the challenges they would face yet the positive tone they talked about it. If we just got smart and got to work, we can solve big problems.

I wanted to be gutsy, like them, and start the conversation on giving back and doing good.

The Team

Phin was founded in 2019 in New York by Doug Lessing. Having been a part of building a great team and company at Firebrand Technologies since 1990, Doug and his long-time business partner (and big sister) Susi Burke knew it was time to put that experience to work. We are a team of passionate optimists. We know that, collectively, we WILL do good work together for the right reasons. We can promise we will be unconventional. This is who we are.
